Social Navigation?? Let me explain what the cool possibilities are with this; the past couple of weeks I’ve been using an iPhone app (also available for Android and Windows Mobile) from Waze which offers free turn-by-turn navigation, and it actually works very well! The nice thing is that Waze uses the behaviour and feedback from all of its users to offer additional information such as real-time traffic reports (for example, when it notices multiple users slowing down at a certain point or when users report specific situations), speed camera notifications, road works and accidents. Also, the users continuously enrich (so-called crowdsourcing) and improve the map data being used by Waze by manually and automatically providing feedback on where and how they are driving just by having the app active.
There are many more cool features in Waze, just to name a few:
- it learns your preferred routes to specific locations, from how you drive
- you can track (if allowed of course) where your Facebook friends are driving and meet up with them
Because the way it works, the user experience improves with the growing number of users, so please go ahead and try it out right away! 😉
